Stat Line Of The Night — 6/27/12 — David Murphy
When it comes to producing runs in the game of baseball, no Major League team can compete with the Texas Rangers. The Rangers entered last night’s game against the Detroit Tigers with a league-leading 395 runs, thanks in large part to the production they have received this season from the likes of Josh Hamilton, Ian Kinsler, Elvis Andrus, Adrian Beltre, Nelson Cruz and Michael Young. Another member of the Rangers who has been quietly putting together some solid offensive numbers is David Murphy, and he was at it once again on Wednesday.
Murphy often bats near the bottom of the Rangers’ dangerous line-up, but last night he was their top producer offensively, as he recorded two home runs and two singles in his four plate appearances, resulting in three runs and five RBIs for the left fielder, and a 13-9 victory for the Rangers.
That impressive offensive performance from Murphy has helped bump his average to a solid .283, while improving his home run and RBI totals to nine and 30, respectively. And more importantly, it has earned him “The Stat Line of the Night” for Wednesday, June 27, 2012.
