Mikhail Youzhny Asks Andre Agassi For Help While Getting Pounded By Roger Federer (Video)
At pro tennis tournaments, players are not allowed to get advice from their coaches during matches. However, there doesn’t appear to be a rule prohibiting a player from seeking advice from spectators.
We learned this yesterday during the quarterfinal match between Mikhail Youzhny and Roger Federer at Wimbledon.
You see, Youzhny has not fared well against Federer over the years. Coming into Wednesday’s matchup, the 26th-ranked men’s player in the world was a demoralizing 0-13 against the Swiss legend, having won just 3 of 35 sets in those meetings. So, just two games into the match, with all signs pointing to yet another lop-sided defeat, the 30-year-old Russian looked to the Royal Box for some advice.
But it wasn’t the advice of Prince William or his wife Kate that Youzhny wanted (yes, they were there). Instead, he was looking to Royal guest Andre Agassi for help.
Check it out:
Now, this wasn’t a bad choice. Agassi did win a Wimbledon title back in the day, along with seven other Grand Slam titles. However, if I were in Youzhny’s predicament, I probably would have asked Agassi’s wife, Steffi Graf, for the advice. After all, she did win six Wimbledon titles.
But in the end, not even the advice of Steffi and Andre could help Youzhny avoid his eventual 1-6, 2-6, 2-6 defeat.
In any case, it’s nice to see a guy can have a sense of humor while he’s getting pummeled. Then again, the fact that his wife gave birth to their second child only hours before Youzhny took the court probably had something to do with his jocular mood.
