Stat Line Of The Night — 7/4/12 — Miguel Cabrera
A special shout-out to Joey Chestnut for him impressive performance at the 2012 Nathan’s Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest, as his 68 hot dogs was enough to earn him his sixth consecutive title. However, it wasn’t enough to earn him the “Stat Line of the Night” for Wednesday, July 4, 2012. Instead, that honor goes to Miguel Cabrera of the Detroit Tigers.
Cabrera had himself quite the impressive Independence Day at the plate, as he recorded two home runs, a double and a walk in his four plate appearances. His bat, along with Justin Verlander’s arm (9 innings, one earned run, seven strikeouts), were clearly the difference, as Cabrera accounted for three runs and three RBIs during the Tigers’ 5-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins.
Cabrera may not have had the votes to earn a starting spot on the American League All-Star roster, but he certainly had the numbers to secure a spot on the team. And last night he had the numbers to earn himself “The Stat Line of the Night.”
