Riccardo Russo’s crew will probably be telling him, “it ain’t over till you see the checkered flag”, after the Yamaha Team Italia FMI rider celebrated his Stock 600 victory at the 2012 Italian CIV championship race in Mugello one lap too early.

Russo held a lead of approximately three bike lengths as he headed into the final lap of the race, but unaware of the fact that there was still one lap remaining, he held his hands in the air and began to celebrate what he thought was a victory, only to be passed by a majority of the riders behind him.

In the end, Alessandro Nocco would pass Nicola Morrentino on the final turn of a thrilling final lap to take the real checkered flag, while Russo finished a disappointing 14th.

You can check out all of the action from that incredibly entertaining final lap in the video below.
