This Day In Sports History (July 13th) – 1982 MLB All-Star Game

It was on this day in 1982 that the 53rd annual Major League Baseball All-Star Game was played.  The game took place at Olympic Stadium in Montreal, Canada, which marked the first time that the Mid-Summer Classic was held outside of the United States.

The National League went on to win the game 4-1, led by shortstop Dave Concepcion of the Cincinnati Reds.  Concepcion would hit a two-run home run in the second inning off Boston Red Sox pitcher Dennis Eckersley to put the N.L. up 2-1, and they would not look back from there.  Concepcion was named the game’s Most Valuable Player.

The 83nd edition of the All-Star Game was played on Tuesday at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, and this time it was Melky Cabrera playing the role of Concepcion, as he belted the home run that would lead the National League to their 8-0 victory.
