WWE Apologizes For Kobe Bryant Rape Joke During Raw Last Night (Video)
How long has it been since you last heard a Kobe Bryant rape joke? If your answer is “less than 24 hours,” you were probably one of the many who tuned in to watch the 1001st episode of WWE Monday Night Raw last night.
During a match between Titus O’Neil and Kofi Kingston, O’Neil’s manager Abraham Washington was entertaining the crowd with a barrage of witty remarks when he eventually went over the line with the following comment regarding Los Angeles Lakers’ star, Kobe Bryant:
“Titus O’Neil is like Kobe Bryant at a hotel in Colorado. He’s unstoppable!!”
Check it out:
While the fans in attendance may have thought it was funny, Vince McMahon and the rest of the WWE Universe didn’t seem to be laughing, as ringside announcer Michael Cole apologized for the comment following a commercial break, and the WWE later issued an apology through Twitter, claiming that “there was no malicious intent behind the joke.”
They have since issued the following official apology through TMZ:
“A.W. made an inappropriate comment and WWE immediately apologized. WWE has taken appropriate action in the matter.”
Reports indicate that A.W. wasted little time apologizing the the McMahon family and several disgruntled wrestlers immediately following his match. Whether that will save his job remains to be seen, but I can assure you that if A.W. is fired by the WWE, you’ll probably never even notice (yeah, he was never really that popular prior to yesterday’s inappropriate choice of words).
