Stat Line Of The Night — 8/5/12 — Omar Infante
Several players from both teams were getting in on the offensive parade during yesterday’s game between the Cleveland Indians and the Detroit Tigers, but it was none other than Tigers’ third baseman Omar Infante who was providing a majority of that offense at the most critical moments of the ballgame.
Infante’s first offensive contribution came in the fifth inning, when his solo home run tied the game at 4-4. Two innings later he would reach base on a double and score on a sacrifice fly two batters later to tie the game at 5-5. And perhaps his most important hit came in the bottom of the tenth, as his two-out, two-run single helped tie the game at 8-8. One batter later, Miguel Cabrera’s two-run homer would give the Tigers the unlikely come-from-behind, extra-innings, 10-8 victory.
Infante finished the game going 4-for-6 at the plate with a double, a home run, and three RBIs. He was a key factor in the Tigers’ ability to mount a comeback after trailing 8-5 in the tenth inning, and he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Sunday, August 5, 2012.
