Eagles’ Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie Delivers Nasty Headshot To Steelers QB Byron Leftwich (Video)

late hit unnecessary roughness on byron leftwichYou gotta feel for Byron Leftwich. Not only does the guy have a goofy name, but he also has to be the backup for the Steelers’ Ben Rothlisberger. Thus, the preseason is likely the only time all year that he’ll get to show the league what he is capable of.

So what happened to him during the preseason opener against the Eagles on Thursday night? Some jackass drilled him with a late hit, plowing right into his head.

The dirty hit came with about a minute left in the first quarter, and the Steelers ahead 3-0. Leftwich scrambled out of the pocket to his right in an attempt to avoid a sack, only to run into the path of hard-charging Eagles cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. But Rodgers-Cromartie doesn’t just sack the dude. He delivers a dirty NHL-style headshot.

See for yourself:

Yeah, no kidding that’s unnecessary roughness. And as the announcer points out, Rodgers-Cromartie has been around for 5 years now; he should now better.

Hopefully, after the whole Saints bounty scandal, the NFL will follow the example set be the NHL this year and start fining idiots when they endanger the lives and careers of other players, just like Rodgers-Cromartie did to Leftwich in this instance.
