Stat Line Of The Night — 8/9/12 — R.A. Dickey
Heading into last night, Mets starting pitcher R.A. Dickey appeared to be the favorite to win the National League Cy Young award, and his performance against the Miami Marlins should only help his chances.
Dickey entered the game with a 14-3 record and a 2.82 ERA, and he improved his numbers in each of those categories with a complete-game performance that saw him give up just five hits and one earned run, while striking out 10 during the Mets’ 6-1 victory.
With the win, Dickey now leads the National League with a total of 15 victories on the season. He is also first in the National League in strikeouts (166), and his 2.72 ERA is good enough to rank him fourth in the NL. And while it may be too late for him to make a run at the pitching triple crown, he still appears to be in line to earn his first career Cy Young award.
For now, he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Thursday, August 9, 2012.
