Stat Line Of The Night — 8/15/12 — Kris Medlen

kris medlenOn July 31st, the Atlanta Braves inserted Kris Medlen into their starting rotation.  It appeared to be a good decision after the 26-year-old righty recorded wins in two of his first three starts, and it is looking even better following his fourth start of the season last night.

Not only did Medlen improve his record to 4-1 with a victory over the San Diego Padres, but he also improved his numbers in a variety of other statistical categories by allowing only five hits and striking out six batters during his first career complete-game shutout.  That performance on the mound, in addition to a few Chipper Jones homers, would carry the Braves to the 6-0 win.

Medlen has only been a starter for four games now, but he has been remarkably impressive, allowing only three earned runs against in 25.2 innings, while compiling a 3-0 record (as a starter).  Last night’s game should prove to the Braves’ management that Medlen is ready to be a full-time starter, as he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Thursday, August 16, 2012.
