Stat Line Of The Night — 8/26/12 — Matt Holliday
Despite the loss of Albert Pujols during the off-season, the St. Louis Cardinals are proving that they are still World Series contenders, as they entered yesterday in sole possession of the second wild card spot in the National League. With the three-time MVP now playing for the Angels, the rest of the Cards’ line-up has had to step up and fill the void. Matt Holliday was certainly doing his part during Sunday’s rubber-match with the Cincinnati Reds…and then some.
The Cards’ left-fielder was seeing just about everything at the plate, as he was 4-for-5 with a triple, a double, two runs and four RBIs, as his team handed the Reds just their second series loss since the All-Star break, via the 8-2 victory.
With the win, the Cards not only increased their lead over the Dodgers to 1.5 games in the NL Wild Card race, but they also closed the gap between themselves and the NL Central-leading Reds to six games. As for Holliday, he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Sunday, August 26, 2012.
