Check Out This Monster Home Plate Collision Between Yadier Molina and Josh Harrison (Video)
During the offseason, some people wondered why the St. Louis Cardinals decided not to give Albert Pujols all the zeros he wanted, but then turned around and signed Yadier Molina to a record deal for a catcher (not named Joe Mauer) that will pay him $75 million over five years.
Well, this season Molina is showing everyone why he’s worth all that money…and then some. Not only is the guy having a career year at the plate, batting .325/.375/.511 with a career high 17 home runs, but he’s also playing the same defense that won him 4 Gold Gloves, 4 Fielding Bible Awards, and 1 Platinum Glove.
And did I mention the guy is tough as nails?
Last night the Cardinals were in Pittsburgh taking on the Pirates. In the bottom of the first, with the Pirates up 1-0 with a man on second and two outs, Jose Tabata hit a liner into right field. The Cardinals’ Carlos Beltran fielded the ball and fired a bullet to Molina at home, who made the catch in time to get plower over by the Pirates’ Josh Harrison.
Of course, Molina held onto the ball. Three outs. Inning over.

Unfortunately for the Cardinals, Molina had to leave the game with a sore back, shoulder, and neck. And as if to underscore his importance to the team ever more, with the gold glove backstop out of the game, sinker ball pitcher Jake Westbrook went on to give up 6 more earned runs, and the Cardinals lost 9-0.
Maybe it would be best for both Molina and the Cards if he got the heck out of the way next time.
