Not One But Two Epic Fails Knock Serie A Club Udinese Out Of UEFA Champions League (Videos)
Last season, Seria A club Udinese finished just barely ahead of Lazio and Napoli to claim third place, earning a shot at qualifying for the group stage of the UEFA Champions League for the second straight year.
Unfortunately, just like last year, Udinese will not be moving on to the group stage. Unlike last year, however, they have two epic fails to blame for their loss in the playoff round.
On Tuesday, Udinese faced off against Braga in the playoff round with a shot at the group stage on the line. And through 57 minutes, the Italian club had a 1-0 lead. So things were looking good…before they started to unravel.
First, Pablo Armero blew a golden opportunity to make it 2-0 when he failed to score on a one-on-one with the Braga keeper. And I’m not talking, the guy came in one-on-one with the goalie, took a shot and missed, or took a shot and it was saved. I’m talking, the guy came in one-on-one with the goalie, and instead of taking a shot at all he fell flat on his face.
Check it out:
You don’t see that every day, do you?
After this, Braga obviously came back to tie the game and send it to penalties, where Brazilian midfielder Maicosuel tried to pull the same trick Andrea Pirlo pulled in the Euro quarterfinals.
It didn’t work out as well.
Have a look:
It’s hard to believe these guys even finished third in Seria A to begin with, isn’t it?
