Pablo Sandoval and Brandon Crawford Team Up to Make One Crazy Catch (Video)
When your starting third baseman’s nickname is “Kung Fu Panda,” you know there is no such thing as a routine play.
San Francisco Giants fans understand this reality, and they embrace it. Pablo Sandoval isn’t just some defensive liability they tolerate for his bat. The guy is a fan favorite in the Bay Area. And why not? He may have an unconventional baseball physique, but the guy finds ways to make the plays…sometimes.
For example, check out this play from last night’s game between the Giants and Astros. In the bottom of the first, with two outs, the Panda had a little trouble catching the ball, and thus, managed to turn a routine foul ball pop-up into a three-ring circus. Luckily for Sandoval, Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford was there to back him up. It’s as crazy a play as we’ve seen all year in Major League Baseball.

Pretty crazy, right? My hope is that someone will take this play and turn it into something like this:
In any case, the Giants would go on to win the game 3-2 thanks to a couple of key hits that scored two runs in the top of the 9th, extending their improbable lead over the Dodgers to 3.5 games. So even without Melky Cabrera, things still seem to be going their way at the moment.
