LeSean McCoy: Ref Wanted Me To Do Well For His Fantasy Team
It is probably fair to assume that the actual NFL officials, like Ed Hochuli and Mike Carey, didn’t take part in any fantasy football leagues. Apparently, the same cannot be said about the replacement officials. At least, that’s what Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy was telling everyone on Monday.
During a radio interview, McCoy had the following to say to 94WIP’s Anthony Gargano and Ike Reese on the 94WIP Player’s Lounge:
“During the game, they made like a bad call or something, the ref, and I see Ray Lewis like pump his chest up, trying to scare him. Don’t you know [the ref] started stuttering? I’m like ‘what’s this?’…They’re like fans, kind of though. I’ll be honest, they’re like fans. One of the refs was talking about his fantasy team, like ‘McCoy, come on, I need you for my fantasy,’ ahhh, what?!”
Interestingly enough, this took place on the same day that another replacement referee had to be taken off the Panthers-Saints game after his Facebook page revealed that he was actually a Saints fan from Louisiana. Needless to say, this could be a rather large conflict of interest for the league as they continue to work through the NFL Referees Association’s strike.
And if you thought Joe Flacco couldn’t get any angrier at the officials after publicly stating that they are “affecting the integrity of the game” following the Ravens’ 24-23 loss to the Eagles, think again, as he probably didn’t enjoy hearing about an official’s fantasy ties to a member of the opposition one day later.
