Ref Flops To The Canvas After Being Pushed By Boxer Michael Sprott (Video)
Referees getting attacked? People falling to the ground when they were barely touched? If I didn’t know any better, I’d say this was an article about soccer.
But no, this is about boxing.
On Saturday night, 37-year-old British heavyweight Michael Sprott was taking on Kazakhstan-born German Edmund Gerber in Offenburg, Germany. Sprott was leading through the first three rounds (or so some have said), but in the 4th Gerber knocked him out. When he got up after a four-count, referee Gerhard Sigl asked him if he was okay to continue, but he didn’t answer until the count was at eight. So Sigl called the bout.
At that point, Sprott became enraged and began shouting at the ref. Then he gave him a violent shove.
How’d the ref take it? He bounced off the ring ropes and flopped to the canvas. Take a look for yourself:
Obviously, Mr. Sigl is a big LeBron fan.
Of course, I don’t blame the ref for taking a dive after the shove. That was a pretty intimidating situation, and he probably just wanted it to be over.
