Stat Line Of The Night — 9/26/12 — Matt Kemp

With top spot in the National League West officially out of reach, the Los Angeles Dodgers’ only chance of salvaging what was expected to be a successful 2012 season is for them to somehow squeak into a Wild Card spot.  They entered last night’s contest trailing the St. Louis Cardinals by 4.5 games for the second Wild Card spot in the NL, but a terrific performance at the plate from Matt Kemp—and a loss by the Cardswould help them trim that deficit to 3.5 games.

Kemp had five at bats on the day, and he made the most of them, going 4-for-5 at the dish with a homer, a double and four RBIs.  That offensive output from the Dodgers’ center fielder would lead his team to a much-needed 8-2 victory over the Padres.

The Dodgers still have plenty of work to do if they hope to slip into the final Wild Card spot, as they are currently 3.5 games out with only seven games remaining.  Needless to say, they’ll need a few more performances like this one from Kemp, as he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Wednesday, September 26, 2012.
