USC’s Robert Woods Takes Brutal Headshot, Stumbles Like A Drunk, Sent Back Into Game One Play Later (GIFs)
I think someone needs to send the good folks over at the USC athletic department a memo regarding the current “concussion crisis” in the world of professional and, in the case of college football, semi-professional sports. Because those geniuses certainly don’t seem to be paying attention to what’s going on.
What am I talking about? I’m talking about the headshot USC receiver Robert Woods took during last night’s 38-28 victory over Utah.
The hit came late in the first quarter. Woods took a helmet-to-helmet hit that knocked him to the ground while blocking on a punt return. Then, while trying to run to meet his team in the offensive huddle, he just fell to the ground like he was three sheets to the wind.
So what did the USC medical staff do? They held him out for one play, then sent him back in.
Yes, they followed the “concussion-protocol” by performing basic tests on the sideline. But if I were the coach and I saw my player stumble like that, I think I’d be inclined to sit him out for a few more plays, just to be on the safe side.
Then again, we’re talking about a program run by Lane Kiffin here. Maybe basic human decency is too much to expect.
Anyway, you see all you need to know about the situation in these two GIFs:
