Stat Line Of The Night — 10/9/12 — Brett Anderson

With their season on the line, the Oakland Athletics sent Brett Anderson to the mound to start Game 3 of the ALDS.  The 24-year-old lefty started just six games during the regular season, but he didn’t buckle under the pressure during what was easily the most important start of his Major League career.

The Athletics’ bats only managed to score two runs, but that was all they would need, as Anderson pitched six shutout innings, allowing only two hits and two walks while striking out six.  The A’s bullpen would take over from there, as Ryan Cook, Sean Doolittle and Grant Balfour kept the Detroit Tigers off the board and secured the 2-0 victory.

The win keeps the Athletics’ improbable 2012 season alive.  They still need to win their next two games at home, but with the way their season has gone thus far, we would be foolish to count them out already.  Unfortunately, they don’t have the privilege of starting Anderson again during this series, but he’s done his job.  And in the process, he’s also earned himself “The Stat Line of the Night” for Tuesday, October 9, 2012.
