Yankees Fan’s Tall Glove Comes Up Short On Raul Ibanez’s Home Run (Video)
When most of you watched Raul Ibanez hit a two-run homer to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth inning during Game 1 of the ALCS on Saturday, you were probably thinking to yourself, “Did that just happen? Did this 40-year-old designated hitter just hit another game-tying home run in the bottom of the ninth?”
I, on the other hand, was in disbelief for another reason. You see, just before Ibanez did the unthinkable, the TBS cameras showed a man seated in the right field bleachers at Yankee Stadium sporting an unusually tall baseball glove. Upon seeing this, I couldn’t help but think to myself, “wouldn’t it be cool if Ibanez hit the ball right at that dude with the big glove?” Well, lo and behold, less than a minute later the Yankees’ hero from the ALDS smacked an 0-1 pitch over the right-field wall and directly at the man’s over-sized mitt. But rather than making the catch and vaulting himself into internet stardom, the dude simply watched the ball clank off his glove before landing a few rows back, causing him and his enormous mitt to go unnoticed.
Well, at least most people probably didn’t notice him. I, on the other hand, enjoy a good failure. And nothing says “fail” quite like missing an easy fly ball with your giant baseball glove.
You can watching it all unfold in the video below.
And in case you’re wondering, this dude wasn’t the only one in pinstripes to come up empty-handed on the night, as the Yankees failed to capitalize on Ibanez’s late-inning heroics, losing to the Tigers by a score of 6-4 in the 12th inning.
