WC Qualifier Between England and Poland Rained Out, So Fans Turn The Pitch Into A Slip And Slide (Video)

On Tuesday, an important World Cup qualifier between England and Poland in Warsaw was postponed due to torrential rain that left the pitch completely waterlogged.

The kicker? The $600 million National Stadium has a retractable roof. They just didn’t retract it.

According to the Polish Football Association, nobody wanted the roof closed—not the two teams, not the FIFA representative on hand, and not even the referee. So the game was rescheduled for today. And, apparently, even though the forecast says it’s going to be 55° and sunny, the roof will be closed.

Yeah, that makes sense.

Anyway, you would think that the Polish soccer fans were pretty bummed about the rainout. But, judging by the following video, at least a handful of them took it in stride and made the best of a silly situation by invading the pitch and turning it into their own personal slip-and-slide.

Have a look:

Is it just me, or does that opening sequence look like something out of The Matrix? Also, how about that one guy’s awesome Polska doo-rag? I’d like to know where I can get one of those.

Of course, we shouldn’t be surprised to learn that soccer fans know how to entertain themselves during a rain delay. This summer a couple of Euro 2012 matches in the Ukraine were delayed by heavy rain, and those fans put on quite a show as well.
