Stat Line Of The Night — 10/21/12 — Chris Johnson
After accumulating only 1,047 yards and four touchdowns on the ground in 2011, the 2012 NFL season was supposed to be a bounce-back year for Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson. Unfortunately, things haven’t played out that way for the 2009 rushing champ, as he entered yesterday’s week seven contest against the Buffalo Bills with zero touchdowns and just 301 rushing yards on the season.
A chance to take on the Bills’ poor excuse for a defense was exactly what Johnson needed in order to break out of his slump, and he would break out in a big way, shredding Buffalo’s front seven to the tune of 195 yards and two touchdowns. The speedy back got things started early, scoring on a 16-yard run on the Titans’ opening drive, but it was what he did during his team’s next offensive possession that was most impressive, as he scampered 83 yards to the end zone on the Titans’ first play of the drive, giving them the early 14-7 lead.
When it was all said and done, the Titans would escape with the 35-34 victory. As for Johnson, he finished with an average of 10.8 yards per carry, and he earns himself “The Stat Line of the Night” for Sunday, October 21, 2012.
