Former Soccer Great Ronaldo Is Training With The UFC’s Anderson Silva In An Effort To Lose Weight (Video)
It’s not uncommon for elite pro athletes to pack on some extra pounds after they retire. They get into the habit of eating whatever they want whenever they want because, when they were working out 4 to 6 hours a day, they needed all those extra calories. Then they retire and stop working out as much, but continue eating like they used to. It’s only natural
That being said, soccer fans who followed the career of Brazilian legend Ronaldo know that this guy didn’t just start gaining wait after retirement. Toward the end of his career the former Barcelona, AC Milan, Inter Milan, and Real Madrid striker started filling out a bit. And now that he really is retired, he’s filled out even more.
However, Ronaldo has recently embarked on a very public mission to shed his extra pounds and get back into shape. He’s signed up to appear on a Brazilian TV show called Medida Certa Ronaldo Fenomeno, which will chronicle his attempt to lose weight by training with fellow Brazilian and UFC Middleweight Champion, Anderson Silva.
So why is Ronaldo making all of this commotion about losing his weight rather than trying to shed the pounds in private?
Well, it seems like it’s all a publicity stunt for a good cause. He’s said that he wants to get in shape for a charity soccer match he is organizing later this year with his former Real Madrid teammate, Zinadine Zidane. And what better way to attract interest in (and money for) that match than by trying to get fit for it on national TV?
Anyway, here’s a clip of the show. It’s in Portuguese, so I have no idea what they’re saying. But I assume it’s stuff like, “Ronaldo, you mustn’t eat so many cheeseburgers.” Also, it features a chunky Ronaldo wearing a tiny little swimsuit, which is pretty awesome.
