Watch Ajax Fans Clash with Manchester City Fans and Police in Amsterdam’s Famous Red Light District (Video)
It was a tough day for many of the top European soccer clubs in UEFA Champions League action yesterday. Real Madrid lost to Bundesliga champs Borussia Dortmund 2-1; AC Milan suffered defeat at the hands of Malaga, 1-0; and Arsenal got schooled at home by Germany’s Schalke, 2-0.
However, nobody looked worse than defending EPL champs Manchester City. After going up 1-0, City allowed host Ajax to score two goals and take the lead. Then the visiting manager, Roberto Mancini, switched up the formation from a 4-man back line to a 3-man back line, and his players simply could not handle it. The result was another Ajax goal and a brutal 3-1 loss, meaning it is now all but impossible for the English champions to advance to the knockout stage of the Champions League.
Of course, if you believe in omens, you probably would have expected a better result for Manchester City. You see, prior to the match, Ajax fans and City fans clashed in Amsterdam’s famous red light district. It all starts with the two opposing groups lining up on opposite sides of a canal and throwing stuff at each other. Then the cops move in and eventually arrest 25 people—most of whom were Ajax fans.
Take a look:
However, while things didn’t go so well for the Ajax fans in the streets, the ones in the stands had a pretty good time.
