Stat Line Of The Night — 10/25/12 — Doug Martin

The Minnesota Vikings entered their Thursday Night Football contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a perfect 4-0 record at home, and their star running back, Adrian Peterson, was coming off his best performance since returning from ACL surgery, as he lit up the Cardinals’ defense last week to the tune of 153 yards and a touchdown.  But with many of the Vikings fans in attendance last night anticipating another Adrian Peterson Show to unfold before their eyes, it was the Bucs’ rookie running back, Doug Martin, who would steal the spotlight on this occasion.

While Peterson did manage to put up an impressive 127 yards and a touchdown on the night, he was still only the second-best running back in this game, as his numbers were no match for Doug Martin’s 135 yards rushing, 79 yards receiving and two touchdowns (one rush and one receiving).  Thanks to their ability to sustain an effective ground game, the Bucs were able to keep the Vikings’ defense off-balance and emerge with the impressive 36-17 victory on the road.

The Bucs are still only 3-4 on the season after last night’s win, but the good news is that it appears as though their offense has suddenly come to life, as they have scored a total of 102 points in the three games they’ve played since coming off their bye week.  Doug Martin is certainly a big part of that offensive surge, and he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Thursday, October 25, 2012.
