49ers Coach Jim Harbaugh Made a Cameo on “Saved by the Bell: The New Class”—and It’s Amazing (Video)
Remember Saved by the Bell: The New Class?
No, of course you don’t. Unlike the original Saved by the Bell, which was campy perfection, this reboot was terrible. Nevertheless, The New Class managed to stay on the air for a highly improbable 7 seasons. And during its awful run, the show gave former NFL quarterback and current San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh the opportunity to make his acting debut.
Oh yeah, that’s right. Jim Harbaugh was on Saved by the Bell: The New Class, and it’s amazing.
How, you ask, did they work the then-Colts quarterback into the plot? Well, it turns out that Harbaugh is Samuel “Screech” Powers’ cousin, and Screech has Jim come give a pep talk to a dejected student in which he explains what it truly means to be a hero.
You’re already inspired, aren’t you?
Here, watch the show. Skip to the 14:40 mark for the set-up of Harbaugh’s cameo.
At the time this episode was made, Harbaugh was just coming off a Pro Bowl season in which he finished second in MVP voting and led the Colts to within a touchdown of the Super Bowl. Hence the raucous reception he got when he walked into The Max.
These days, after creating an unnecessary quarterback controversy and calling a ridiculously risky play that cost the Niners the game on Sunday in St. Louis, I think he’d get more boos than cheers.
