Juan Manuel Márquez Knocked Out Manny Pacquiao (Video)
Last November, Juan Manuel Márquez thought he’d finally beat Manny Pacquiao.
It was his third try in a span of eight years. Their first meeting came on May 8, 2004, and ended in a controversial split-decision. Then, four years later, Pacquiao beat Márquez in a split decision, saying afterward that there would be no rematch. But there was. It came on November 12, 2011, and many people watching that bout thought Márquez got the better of Pacquiao. Márquez thought so, too. Unfortunately, the judges (and the punch stats) did not agree, and Pacquiao won again.
This set up Pacquiao-Márquez IV, which went down Saturday night. And for once, there was no room for controversy…kind of.
As you probably have heard by now, after an entertaining six rounds of fighting, Márquez knocked Pacquiao the f#@$ out with a perfect and powerful counterpunch, sending the 16,000 people at the MGM Grand into a frenzy.
Take a look:
So, yeah, there was no doubt about this decision. That was one of the most incredible knockouts in a competitive bout in the history of boxing. Pacquiao was unconscious for nearly two whole minutes while his poor wife cried hysterically ringside.
However, that doesn’t mean there was no controversy.
Before the fight there was some snickering about the muscle mass Márquez had added over the past 12 months since Pacquiao-Márquez III, with some people wondering whether the guy might be juicing. And of course, that powerful knockout didn’t do anything to quiet the speculation. So stay tuned. This could get interesting.
