Stat Line of the Night — 1/1/2013 — Aaron Murray

After coming up just short in the SEC Championship Game against Alabama exactly one month earlier, many wondered whether the Georgia Bulldogs would be able to refocus in time for their New Years Day meeting with the Nebraska Cornhuskers at the Capital One Bowl.  Doing so would not be an easy task, as the Bulldogs’ 32-28 loss to Alabama on December 1st cost them a shot at playing Notre Dame in the BCS Championship Game, but they seemed to have little problems putting that loss behind them, as quarterback Aaron Murray had his offense firing on all cylinders.

Murray got the Bulldogs off to a quick start, as he connected on two touchdown passes in the opening quarter to give Georgia the 16-14 lead after 15 minutes of play, but what was even more impressive was the manner in which the junior quarterback finished the game.  With his team trailing by a score of 31-23 in the third quarter, Murray took control, connecting on three unanswered touchdown passes to lead the Bulldogs to the 45-31 victory.

Murray would finish the game with 18 completions on 33 attempts for 427 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions.  That was enough to earn him both the Capital One Bowl MVP and “The Stat Line of the Night” for Tuesday, January 1, 2013.
