Stat Line of the Night — 1/7/2013 — A.J. McCarron

A.J. McCarron entered last night’s BCS National Championship Game looking to become the first starting quarterback in NCAA history to lead his team to back-to-back national titles.  Three other quarterback had the opportunity to accomplish that feat, but each of them lost during their second trip to the national championship game (Florida State’s Chris Weinke, USC’s Matt Leinart and Miami’s Ken Dorsey).  As for McCarron, he was able to avoid suffering a similar setback during his shot at a second national title, as he led the Crimson Tide’s aerial attack during their romp over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

McCarron capped off the season by putting together one of the greatest games of his college career, as he completed 20 of his 28 pass attempts for 264 yards and four touchdowns against what was supposed to be a stingy Irish defense.  But that clearly wasn’t the case on this night, as Alabama rolled to the 42-14 victory.

It will be interesting to see if McCarron decides to declare for the 2013 NFL Draft.  If he does, his performance last night should improve his stock drastically, as he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Monday, January 7, 2013.
