Referees Brutally Attacked During Amateur Soccer Game in Chile (Video)
It’s been a while since we brought you a story about fans and players brutally attacking a referee at a soccer game. Unfortunately, given the nature of soccer fans in certain parts of the world, by “a while” I mean only about five weeks.
In any case, the story we have for you today is out of Chile. At a recent amateur game in the town of Melipilla, some fans and players went completely nuts and attacked a referee.
And yes, you read that right: it was an amateur game!
The regional final between Baquedano and Pablo Lizama was tied 1-1 in extra time when friction between the two teams turned into a relatively minor on-field skirmish. However, after one of the linesmen was accosted on the sidelines by one of the fans, the referee called off the game.
At that point, one of the guys on the yellow team knocked the ref to the ground with a flying kick to the back, and then some of his teammates and fans proceeded to beat the poor guy unconscious.
But don’t feel sorry for the ref. Feel sorry for the linesman. That guy had a bunch of his teeth kicked out.
