Brandon Paul of Illinois Posterized Trevor Mbakwe of Minnesota (Video)
Last night in Champagne, Illinois, the #8 Minnesota Golden Gophers showed the Big Ten and the rest of the country that they are not a fluke by spanking the #12 Illinois Fighting Illini 84-67 on their home court. This convincing victory extended the Gophers’ record to an impressive 15-1 (and 3-0 in the Big Ten), while sinking Illinois to a more pedestrian 14-3 (and just 1-2 in the Big Ten).
However, based on the way the game started, you never would have expected that outcome. In just the fourth minute of the game, with the score 2-1 in favor of Illinois, the Illini’s star guard Brandon Paul gave us what might be the most monstrous posterization of the college basketball season so far.
The victim was Minnesota’s Trevaor Mbakwe. Just take a look:
Yeah, sure, the referee called charging on the play. It was charging—take a look at Mbakwe’s feet. Nevertheless, that was one of the more impressive dunks you’re going to see.
Unfortunately, whatever spark that provided to Illinois was soon squashed by Minnesota’s size and hot shooting. That’s okay, though, because this highlight can definitely survive out of context.
