Boston Mayor Tom Menino Calls Wilfork "Wilcock," Gronk "Gonk" (Video)
By golly, he’s done it again.
Last year, with the Boston Celtics holding a 3-2 series lead over the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals (they would go on to lose the series, 4-3), Boston Mayor Tom Menino took a moment during an interview with reporters to praise the play of the team’s top players, including Rajon Rondo and Kevin Garnett. Only problem was that he accidentally referred to Rondo and KG as “Hondo” and “KJ.”
This time, it’s the names of players on Boston’s football team that are being butchered by Menino.
With the New England Patriots set to take on the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday, Mayor Menino decided to call up Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake to discuss the teams of their respective cities. And despite the use of cheat sheets, which Menino is clearly reading from throughout the telephone conversation, he still managed to call defensive tackle Vince Wilfork “Wilcock,” and tight end Rob Gronkowski “Gonk.”
Not exactly a good way to earn some additional votes from the sports fans in your city.

Although Stephanie didn’t come out and say it, she’s probably hoping the Patriots will resemble their mistake-prone mayor on Sunday. If that ends up being the case, it should be enough to earn her Ravens a spot in Super Bowl XLVII
