Kari Lehtonen Makes Great Backhanded, Behind-the-Back Glove Save (Video)
It took about 10 days, but the NHL action is now heating up, and we’re finally seeing some great highlights roll in. On Friday it was two brilliant behind-the-back passes that set up goals. Yesterday it was a bonecrushing body check by San Jose’s Brad Stuart. And today it’s an amazing save by the Dallas Stars’ Kari Lehtonen.
Man, I love hockey.
Anyway, about that save…Last night the Columbus Blue Jackets hosted the Dallas Stars and wound up with a 2-1 victory. However, the Stars didn’t have their goalie to blame for this loss.
Well, actually, that’s not entirely true. The winning goal was a little flukie. But that is definitely balanced out by an amazing save Lehtonen made early in the second period.
With Columbus winger Nick Foligno providing a screen, Columbus defenseman Jack Johnson fired a shot on net. Lehtonen managed to get his glove on it but couldn’t snare it completely, and the puck bounced over and behind him, heading right for the net. It looked like a sure goal…until Lehtonen reached behind him and snatched it with a backhanded stab.
Take a look:
Do they play baseball in Finland? Because Lehtonen looks like he’s played a little shortstop in his day.
