Stat Line of the Night — 2/3/2013 — Joe Flacco, Super Bowl XLVII MVP
Joe Flacco took plenty of heat at the beginning of the season for telling a reporter that be believed he was ranked right up there among the NFL’s elite quarterbacks. Following last night’s victory at Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans, I don’t believe he’ll be taking the same amount of flak should he choose to repeat those comments this upcoming off-season.
Flacco may have experienced some bumps in the road during the 2012 NFL season, but he was lights-out in the playoffs, entering the Super Bowl with an incredible eight touchdowns and zero interceptions through his first three post-season games. And he had another flawless performance last night, as the Ravens quarterback connected on 22 of his 33 pass attempts for 287 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions.
Most of Flacco’s damage was done in the opening half, including all three of his touchdown passes. That dangerous aerial attack had the Ravens out to the 21-6 halftime lead, and they were able to hold off a spirited San Francisco rally, en route to the 34-31 Super Bowl XLVII victory.
In addition to hoisting the Vince Lombardi trophy for the first time in his young NFL career, Joe Flacco also earned Super Bowl XLVII MVP honors, and well as “The Stat Line of the Night” for Sunday, February 3, 2013.
