Condor Gets Loose on the Ice During ECHL Game (Video)
I was at a hockey game one time on Veterans Day, and to mark the occasion they had a bald eagle do a lap around the arena and then land back on his handler’s glove. It was pretty awesome, but it would have been even more awesome if the eagle had freaked out and gone on a terrifying rampage.
That’s kind of what happened at a recent ECHL hockey game, only it was a condor, not an eagle. And, no, it wasn’t quite on a rampage.
The Bakersfield Condors, you see, decided to bring out an actual condor for pregame ceremonies, but things didn’t go according to plan. During the national anthem, while the handler was taking the bird to its perch, it was spooked and got away from the guy. He was able to catch it fairly easily, but while hurrying back to his center ice carpet, he slipped and fell on his butt, and the bird escaped again. This time it decided to wander on over to the Condors players’ bench and terrorize them.
Think it sounds silly to be scared of a bird? Well then obviously you’ve never seen a condor.
Take a look at the whole affair. It’s pretty hilarious:
