David Fangupo is the Fastest 350-Pound Running Back of All Time (Video)
Kealakehe High School football player David Fangupo is 6’2″, 350 pounds, and on National Signing Day last week the kid accepted a scholarship offer from Hawaii after weighing full scholarship offers from BYU and Georgia Tech.
So he’s a lineman, right?
Right. He is a lineman. But he’s also a running back. And no, I’m not kidding.
For his first three seasons in high school, David was a lineman, but then his coach had a crazy idea: the kid has such amazing speed and athleticism for a guy his size, why not try him as a back? So he tried it, and all Fangupo did was run for 538 yards and 10 TDs on 74 carries (7.27 yards per carry), helping Kealakehe to a 10-2 record and the Big Island Interscholastic Federation championship.
So how fast is Fangupo? Well, he’s not going to set any track records, but he’s faster than a lot of guys who aren’t 120 pounds overweight. And the few opponents he couldn’t out run in high school were incapable of bringing the big guy down on their own.
Take a look:
A guy named Luke Ristow, the top commenter on YouTube, said it best: “I used to create this guy on madden!”
Anyway, there’s no way David will be a fulltime running back in college. But I’m sure he’ll see at least a few carries where short gains are needed.
Regardless, the dude is making big guys everywhere proud.
