PSV and Feyenoord Brawl in Tunnel After Pivotal Dutch Soccer Match (Video)
The top of the standings in the English Premier League, the Spanish Primera Liga, and the German Bundesliga aren’t exactly crowded this season. In each case, one team sits at the top—Manchester United, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich respectively—enjoying a comfortable lead of at least 12 points over the #2 team.
However, things are a lot tighter in the Dutch Eredivisie. There, PSV Eindhoven sits at the top, with Ajax two points back and Feyenoord just three points back. Thus, when PSV and Feyenoord squared off on Sunday, a lot was at stake.
The players? They were keenly aware of this. And it wasn’t just the action on the field that was telling. The fact that they also got into a post-match brawl in the tunnel also did much to reveal their true emotions.
After the game, which Feyenoord won 2-1, Jeremain Lens of PSV was seen waiting around in the tunnel. As it turned out, he was looking to have a discussion with Joris Mathijsen of Feyenoord. And by “discussion,” I mean he was waiting around to attack the guy. So that’s what he did. Then the rest of their teammates jumped in, and Lens ended up with somebody’s hands around his neck (see above image).
Of course, it was all caught on video. Take a look:
So I guess it’s not just soccer fans who take things a little too far.
