Stat Line of the Night — 2/24/2013 — Kobe Bryant
Prior to yesterday’s NBA match-up between the Dallas Mavericks and the Los Angeles Lakers, Mavs owner Mark Cuban suggested that the Lakers should consider using the amnesty clause on Kobe Bryant. Well, let’s just say that perhaps Cuban should have waited until after the game to open his mouth, because his comments seemed to inspire Kobe, and the result was a rather impressive performance from the five-time NBA champion.
Playing with the added motivation produced by Cuban’s words, Bryant torched the Mavericks to the tune of 38 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists and one block. There were moments when it appeared as though the All-Star guard simply couldn’t miss, as he connected on 13 of his 21 field-goal attempts, while going 4-for-5 from beyond the arc. In the end, the Mavs had no answer for Kobe, as he and the Lakers emerged with the 103-99 road victory.
With 38 points on the evening, Kobe outscored the rest of the Lakers’ starters (Dwight Howard, Steve Nash, Metta World Peace and Earl Clark) by two points on the evening. That’s enough to earn him “The Stat Line of the Night” for Sunday, February 24, 2013.
