NC State Center Fielder Brett Williams Makes Incredible Diving Front-Somersault Catch (Video)
The play you are about to see does not look real. In fact, it’s so ridiculous that, if it weren’t from a well-documented NCAA baseball game between two top programs, I probably would have assumed it’s fake.
The game? The second of a three-game series between the 10th-ranked NC State Wolfpack and the New Mexico State Aggies in Raleigh, played on Wednesday afternoon. The play? An insane diving summersault catch to rob the Aggies of at least two, but maybe three bases. The player? Wolfpack center fielder Brett Williams, a 5’11” senior from New Bern, North Carolina.
Take a look:
That doesn’t even look possible, does it?
Now, obviously if this were the big leagues, the dive would probably be unnecessary because the center fielder would have gotten a better jump on the ball. But as far as diving catches go, this would have been about as good as they get, even without the physics-defying somersault at the end. As for that flip and the smooth landing, those are just icing on the cake.
Well done, Mr. Williams.
