Fans Fight in Stands at College Hockey Game in Alaska (Video)

fan fight at alaska hockey game governor's cup

They don’t have a lot of big-time sports up in Alaska. However, one thing they do have is NCAA Division I hockey, and every year the two biggest programs in the state—the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) Nanooks and the University of Alaska (UAA) Anchorage Seawolves—play a three-game series for state bragging rights and the Governor’s Cup.

The 2013 edition of the Alaska Airlines Governor’s Cup wrapped up on Saturday night in Anchorage, with the Nanooks beating the Seawolves 3-1 to claim the 2-0 series sweep. The win pushed UAF to 16-14-4 overall and gave them a 12-8 edge in Governor’s Cup competition. UAA, meanwhile, sunk to a lowly 4-21-7.

So do the fans take the Governor’s Cup seriously? Well, I certainly can’t speak for all of them. But if this fight that broke out in the stands on Saturday is any indication, then I’d say the answer is definitely yes.

Take a look:

Sure, it’s not exactly the nastiest fan brawl we’ve ever seen, but it looks like that one guy gets a couple of good licks in…even if they didn’t hurt all that much.
