Stat Line of the Night — 3/24/2013 — Jeff Withey

Two of college basketball’s most storied programs squared off at the 2013 NCAA Tournament yesterday, as North Carolina took on Kansas with a spot in the Sweet 16 on the line.  And while it was the Tar Heels who headed into the locker room at halftime with a nine-point lead, in the end it was the Jayhawks who were carried through to the next round on the back of center Jeff Withey.

Playing in his fourth NCAA Tournament, the Jayhawks’ senior was on a mission to take his team to the Sweet 16, as he recorded 16 points, 16 rebounds five blocks, two assists and a steal during Kansas’ 70-58 victory over the Tar Heels.

With the win, Withey will play in his third Sweet 16 game in four tournament appearances.  He has made the Elite Eight twice and the finals once, but he is still looking for that elusive NCAA Tournament title.  Could this be the year that he finally gets over the hump?  We’ll have to wait and see, but for now Withey earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Sunday, March 24, 2013.
