Stat Line of the Night — 4/4/2013 — Ben Bishop

The Tamp Bay Lightning’s primary objective during this year’s NHL trade deadline was to improve their goaltending.  As a result, they traded away Rookie of the Year candidate Cory Conacher and a fourth-round draft pick to acquire Ben Bishop from the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday.

That move would pay immediate dividends for Tampa, as Bishop made his first start in a Lightning uniform last night against the Carolina Hurricanes, and he helped his new team record their first shutout of the season by stopping all 45 shots he faced during a 5-0 victory.

With the win, the Lightning move to within just four points of the Washington Capitals and the Winnipeg Jets for top spot in the Southeast Division.  Winning the division appears to be the Lightning’s only hope of making the postseason this year, and Bishop could be just what the team needs to get them there.  But for now, their new goaltender earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Thursday, April 4, 2013.
