Stat Line of the Night — 4/17/2013 — Pau Gasol
The Lakers entered their season finale on Wednesday not knowing whether they would be taking part in the 2013 NBA playoffs, but a loss by the Utah Jazz assured them of at least the eighth spot in the Western Conference, and a victory over the Houston Rockets later that night was enough to bump them into seventh.
Leading the way for the Lakers was Pau Gasol, who stepped up in the absence of Kobe Bryant and recorded 17 points, 20 rebounds, 11 assists and two blocks. It was Gasol’s seventh career triple-double, and it was exactly what the Lakers needed in order to secure the 99-95 victory.
With the win, the Lakers will now take on the San Antonio Spurs in the first round of the playoffs. Beating them won’t be easy, but the Spurs have lost each of their last three games, and seven of their last ten, so they appear to be vulnerable at the moment.
If the Lakers hope to pull off the upset, Gasol will have to be a major factor. He was last night, and it earned him “The Stat Line of the Night” for Wednesday, April 17, 2013.
