Referee Takes a Spill During Clippers-Grizzlies Game 2 (Video)
NBA referees may not be quite as hilariously awful as the replacement referees who worked the first few weeks of the 2012 NFL season. However, over the course of an entire five-month basketball season they’ve given us just as many awkward moments. We’ve seen a guy accidentally keep a ball inbounds and give the Heat an easy bucket. We’ve seen Joey Crawford dancing. We’ve seen Bill Kennedy asking two coaches to help him stall for time because he messed up. And we’ve seen Courtney Kirkland block Kris Humphries’ free throw attempt.
Now we have a referee tripping over an injured Tony Allen during Game 2 of the Clippers-Grizzlies series last night in Los Angeles.
With play stopped, the ref started walking backwards toward the baseline, not watching where he was going. Thus, he didn’t see Allen sitting there on the floor, holding his ankle, and he tripped over him. Then he tried to prevent his fall by grabbing onto Allen’s head…which didn’t work.
Take a look:
NBA refs: you gotta love ’em.
