Stat Line of the Night — 4/25/2013 — Gio Gonzalez
After putting together a 21-8 record and a 2.89 ERA in 2012, Gio Gonzalez stumbled out of the gate in his second year with the Washington Nationals. He has failed to last more than six innings in any of his first four starts in 2013, and he entered last night’s contest with a 1-1 record and a 5.85 ERA. But everyone knows that it’s still early, including Gio, who seemed to regain his form during his fifth start of the season against the Cincinnati Reds.
The Reds entered the game with the second most runs scored in the National League, but they could only manage one solo home run against Gonzalez, as the 27-year-old lefty lasted eight innings, allowing just one hit, one earned run and two walks, while striking out seven during the Nats’ 8-1 victory.
With the win, Gonzalez improves his record to 2-1 on the season, while lowering his ERA to 4.50. He still has some work to do in order to get back to where he was last season, but he certainly appears to be on the right track following last night’s performance, which earned him “The Stat Line of the Night” for Thursday, April 25, 2013.
