Is This Behind-the-Back Save by AHL Goalie Drew MacIntyre the Save of the Year?
For the last couple of years, the AHL’s Toronto Marlies have enjoyed some extra attention from Toronto hockey fans come playoff time because the NHL’s Maple Leafs had gotten into the habit of booking tee times instead of charter flights come April. However, this year things are different. The Leafs don’t suck, Toronto hockey fans are salivating about the Stanley Cup playoffs for the first time in nine long years, and the poor Marlies have been all but forgotten.
Of course, Marlies goalie Drew MacIntyre is trying to change that. On Saturday, during Game 1 of the Marlies’ opening round playoff series against the Rochester Americans at the Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto, the 29-year-old career minor leaguer made what just might be the best save of the 2012-13 hockey season at any level.
Don’t believe it? Then see for yourself:
If Neo from the Matrix were an NHL goalie, this is the kind of save he’d make on a regular basis. So take note, Toronto hockey fans. Drew MacIntyre may be no James Reimer, but he has his moments.
