Check Out the Nasty Nutshot Detroit’s Jimmy Howard Took from Anaheim’s Corey Perry (GIFs)
On Wednesday night, the Anaheim Ducks beat the Detroit Red Wings 3-2 in overtime to take a 3-2 lead in their best-of-seven playoff series, putting the Wings on the brink of elimination. It was a loss that no doubt must have felt like a good kick to the nuts.
Of course, not all of the nutshots were metaphorical that night. In the first period, with the game still scoreless, Red Wings netminder Jimmy Howard took a genuine whack to the privates courtesy of Anaheim’s Corey Perry. And let me tell you, it sure looked intentional.
Of course, Jimmy Howard might have helped sell the infraction with a little creative embellishment—or at least that was the opinion of ESPN head-mullet/hockey analyst Barry Melrose, who said goalies tend to be “pretty good actors.”
But don’t take Barry’s greasy-haired word for it. See Howard’s reaction for yourself:
Personally, I think that, yes, Howard probably engaged in a little acting there. After all, he is wearing a protective cup.
That being said, kicking a goalie in the nuts is a pretty douchebag-type move. So Perry definitely deserved the penalty.
If I were Ducks goalie Jonas Hiller, I’d be on the lookout for retribution in Game 6 tonight.
