Stat Line of the Night — 5/14/2013 — Carlos Gonzalez
After getting out to a 15-8 start this season, the Colorado Rockies have fallen on hard times, winning just five of their last 15 contests entering last night’s game against the Chicago Cubs. They were looking to right the ship while closing the gap between themselves and the NL West-leading San Francisco Giants. And they would do just that, thanks in large part to the bat of Carlos Gonzalez.
CarGo stepped to the plate five times during last night’s game at Wrigley, and he would make each of those at bats a successful one, as the Rockies’ left fielder went 5-for-5 at the dish with two home runs, one double, three RBIs and three runs scored. That performance at the plate would help pace Colorado’s offensive attack, as they cruised to the 9-4 victory over the Cubs.
Gonzalez’s multi-homer evening bumps his total to nine on the season, leaving him just four back of Justin Upton for the Major League lead. If he continues to show power like last night, he should remain among the NL leaders in home runs, but for now he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Tuesday, May 14, 2013.
