Stat Line of the Night — 5/19/2013 — Miguel Cabrera
It’s not often that we award the “Stat Line of the Night” to a player on the losing team, but it also isn’t everyday that you see a Major Leaguer put together a three-home-run game in a losing effort. That is exactly what Miguel Cabrera of the Detroit Tigers did last night, as he went 4-for-4 at the dish with three home runs, one single, one walk, four runs and five RBIs during an 11-8 loss to the Texas Rangers.
Cabrera’s home run parade would begin in the third inning with a three-run shot off Derek Holland to give the Tigers the 3-1 lead, and he would increase that lead to 4-1 with a solo shot in the fifth. However, the Rangers would go on to score 10 runs between the fifth and seventh innings to take an 11-7 lead, and not even Miguel’s third dinger of the evening—a solo shot in the eighth—was enough to trigger a Tigers comeback. It was, however, enough to earn the 2012 AL Triple Crown winner the “Stat Line of the Night” for Sunday, May 19, 2013.
