Stat Line of the Night — 5/23/2013 — Jimmy Howard

Last season the Los Angeles Kings won the Stanley Cup as the eighth-seed in the Western Conference.  This season, the Detroit Red Wings appear to be on the verge of making the same unlikely playoff run as the seventh-seed in the Western Conference, and much of their success thus far has to do with the play of their goaltender, Jimmy Howard.

Howard has been phenomenal all playoffs, and he may have had his best game yet during Game 4 of the Western Conference Semi-Finals last night against the Chicago Blackhawks, as he became the first goalie all season to shut out the Presidents Trophy winners, stopping all 28 shots he faced during the 2-0 shutout victory.

With the win, Howard improves to 7-4 with a 2.21 goals-against-average in the postseason, and more importantly, he has the Wings out to a 3-1 series lead against their division rivals.  As a result, he earns the “Stat Line of the Night” for Thursday, May 23, 2013.
